Does Voice Dictation Work?

Voice Dictation

So, I’m trying something different today. I’m actually using voice dictation to create this post. I’ve had Dragon NaturallySpeaking installed on my desktop computer for some time, but I’m never actually used it. I’m working at getting several websites up and running, and I need to find a way to increase my productivity and get content created much more quickly. I really don’t mind typing and I can generally rattle off a few hundred words in a relatively short period of time. However, I do have issues with tendinitis and repetitive strain injuries that affect my hands and wrists, that sometimes make typing a painful endeavor. The thing with typing however, is that generally my thought process keeps in time with my typing speed. I find with voice dictation I must pause and think about what I want written down next. Although the accuracy is there, it seems unnatural when I have to stop talking and actually think about what I’m going to say next.

Umm and Duh!

I know in time I will get used to it and that using voice dictation is going to save me a ton of time and allow me to get things done much quicker than I would ever be able to do it by typing each and every word. It’s been a while since I posted anything, but I have been very busy working on other projects and trying to get everything completed so that I can start working on my own stuff again. I was hoping to be able to get to work on a few of my other websites, but then I had another website project thrown in my lap that needs to be completed by the end of September. I managed to get the domain and the web hosting set up this afternoon along with the basics that are needed to get the website ready for content. Luckily for this project I will be managing it and have others who will be working in a group to create all the content needed for the website. As a main language for the new website will be French, it isn’t something I will be able to create the content for as my French kind of sucks, to put it mildly.

Damn, It’s Hot!

Besides being busy and other projects, things have been going well. Here in Ottawa, the summer weather has been hotter than hell and we haven’t had much rain which makes it that much worse. Even taking the dog go for walks requires planning as you don’t want to take them out during the peak time of heat during the day. And when you do take your dog out for a walk, you must make sure you bring water for them as well, so they don’t dehydrate and end up with heatstroke. My young beagle seems to know throughout the day how hot it is outside and stops asking to go out when it does get very hot. He knows that in the mornings it is cooler outside and that is the time to go for his walk. Just as well, I really don’t like going for long walks when it’s extremely hot outside either. Now that we are in the middle of September we should be expecting it to cool off, but the upcoming forecasts suggest that isn’t going to happen anytime soon. It looks like we’re going to be in for a warmer than average September and October. It’s quite possible we may still be wearing shorts and T-shirts come November.

Rambling On and On

Well I suppose that’s enough rambling for now and I should move on to some other things. I’m hoping to start posting more regularly in the future in addition to getting some other websites up and running as well as trying my hand at YouTube. I have some ideas regarding learning guitar that may help others who have disabilities or injuries that are holding them back from learning or even playing guitar or other musical instruments. I came extremely late to the game of learning guitar and I can’t say that it was easy. In fact, it has been extremely difficult and challenging, but I do enjoy a challenge. Along with that, there have been a lot of things going on in the news lately that I would like to comment on and make my opinion known. Also, here in Ontario, we have civic elections taking place in October. There are lots of candidates out there who are running for mayor or city council, who will be making their platforms available to their local area constituents. We also recently elected a new premier in the province of Ontario who has taken a lot of criticism recently on some of the decisions he has made thus far. So, going forward, there will definitely be no shortage of topics to discuss and write about.

Ball is in Your Court
